Being cool means you don’t give a fuck if you sometimes dig cheesy shit. Which is why I just cannot help myself; I LOVE THIS SONG. The 90s were a decade spent primarily in cars- without MP3 players, if you can remems that. And with your mom driving. So unless you had the cassette hookup for your discman or a mom that could deal with your mixtapes, you did a lot of RADIO LISTENING. Which was usually Z100, maybe KROCK. And so sometimes the top 40 would invade your consciousness, no matter HOW ALTERNATIVE COOL TEEN (read: me, obvs) you were. That’s how Top 40 works. The first 2 weeks you say ‘Ugh,not Everclear, puhleeeeze” and then by the next 2 weeks you’re all “I just wanna see some paaaaallmmmm treeeeeeeesssss”..and secretly love it so much but can’t admit it to your friends.
